Διάσημη κατά την αρχαιότητα, διάσημη και σήμερα! Μυστηριακή τότε, το ίδιο ενεργειακή και τώρα! Η πιο παλιά πόλη της Σαμοθράκης, που σήμερα λέγεται Παλαιόπολη, μας ταξιδεύει πίσω στον χρόνο, όπως και τότε… , που πλήθος κόσμου αποβιβαζόταν στο Δημήτριο λιμένα της, για να μυηθεί στα Καβείρια Μυστήρια!
Από τα πρώτα κιόλας βήματα στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Παλαιόπολης, νιώθεις ότι πλησιάζεις σε ένα μέρος ιδιαίτερο! Ένας θρησκευτικός χώρος λατρείας, που επί 10 σχεδόν αιώνες, ήταν ανοιχτός για όλους ανεξαιρέτως, όσους ήθελαν να μάθουν από τους Μεγάλους Θεούς και να υποσχεθούν σε αυτούς!
Σε αυτό το μυστήριο μέρος, έπρεπε να αποδείξουν την Καθαρότητα της ψυχής τους θυσιάζοντας τον «κατώτερο εαυτό τους», για να πάρει τη θέση του ο ανώτερος, ο άξιος να μάθει το μυστικό της αρχής του ανθρώπου και τη δύναμη που φέρει αυτό! Γιατί όποιος κατείχε το μυστικό της απαρχής δεν επιτρεπόταν να φοβάται, γιατί είχε δει, γιατί ήξερε, γιατί κατείχε τον Ιερό Λόγο και με τις επικλήσεις του μπορούσε να κατορθώσει ότι επιθυμούσε!
Σήμερα, πρώτη εμφανίζεται η επιβλητική Φτερωτή Θεά Νίκη, που τότε έμοιαζε σα να είχε μόλις προσγειωθεί στη πλώρη του καραβιού για να οδηγήσει στον θρίαμβο ! Η πραγματική της θέση όμως, βρίσκεται πιο ψηλά, πιο βαθιά στον ιερό χώρο.
Ο δρόμος προς τη Νίκη, περνά από Ανάκτορα, Κτίρια Αναθημάτων, εστιατόρια και άλλα ερείπια που σώζονται ως σήμερα, με τη Μεγάλη Στοά να ξεχωρίζει, για να εξιστορεί την πιο λαμπρή εποχή της Σαμοθράκης.
Σε ένα από τα ερείπια αυτά, βρίσκεται σφηνωμένος ένας βράχος που το σχήμα του είναι ίδιο με αυτό του νησιού! Ξεχωρίζει από όλες τις άλλες πέτρες και ίσως είναι από τους παλιότερους χάρτες που έχουν βρεθεί, δηλώνοντας ότι ήξεραν πολύ καλά που βρίσκονταν !
Και φτάνουμε στην ακριβή τοποθεσία της περίφημης Νίκης. Εκεί από όπου στεκόταν με το βλέμμα της στραμμένο προς τη θάλασσα και το Ιερό των Μεγάλων Θεών όπου κορυφωνόντουσαν οι τελετές.
Όλα όμως, ξεκινούσαν από την Ανατολή, όπως και το φως της μέρας! Στον Ανατολικό Λόφο, ψηλά στον Αη Γιώργη όπως λέγεται σήμερα, φαίνονται ξεκάθαρα τα τείχη της αρχαίας πόλης. Από τις πύλες τους εισέρχονταν στην Ιερή πόλη.
Κατηφόριζαν στο Πρόπυλο του Πτολεμαίου Β’ , που με την διπλή αρχιτεκτονική του συμβόλιζε την μετάβαση από τον κοσμικό στον ιερό χώρο, ενώ ταυτόχρονα το νερό του ανατολικού ρέματος, χώριζε στα δυο τα θεμέλιά του.
Από το Πρόπυλο, στον Θεατρικό κύκλο, που τότε περιβαλλόταν από δεκάδες μεγάλα χάλκινα αγάλματα και η χωρητικότητα του ξεπερνούσε τα 200 άτομα. Και από το Ανάθημα του Φιλίππου του Αριδαίου και του Αλεξάνδρου Δ’ πατούσαν στην Ιερή Οδό που θα τους οδηγούσε στη γνώση.
Ο Βασιλιάς της Μακεδονίας Φίλιππος με την μητέρα του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου Ολυμπία, ο Πλάτωνας, ο Σωκράτης, ο Παυσανίας, ο Ηρόδοτος, ο Αγαμέμνονας, ο Όμηρος, ο Οδυσσέας και πολλοί ακόμα διάσημοι της αρχαιότητας περπάτησαν την Ιερή Οδό των Καβείρων και μυήθηκαν στα μυστήρια τους, υπόσχοντας σε αυτούς αιώνια σιωπή.
Στο Ανάκτορο, το Άδυτον και την Ιερή Οικία οι τελετές μύησης του πρώτου βαθμού ήταν ποικίλες, ενώ εδώ έμπαινε και η «σφραγίδα» αφού βρέθηκαν πολλές πλάκες με σκαλισμένα τα ονόματα των μυημένων.
Δίπλα τους, το μεγαλύτερο κυκλικό οικοδόμημα της εποχής εκείνης, το Αρσινόιο. Αφιέρωμα της Βασίλισσας Αρσινόης, χτισμένο πάνω σε βράχο – βωμό, χωρισμένο σε δύο ημικύκλια που συμβόλιζαν το θείο ζεύγος. Στο ένα υπήρχε ο παλιός βωμός και στο άλλο ο ιερός λίθος, σύμβολο του Κάτω Κόσμου .
Οι πολύ λίγοι Επόπτες (ανώτερος βαθμός μύησης) και οι πολλοί μύστες (πρώτος βαθμός μύησης) κατέληγαν στο Ιερό των Μεγάλων Θεών, με στεφάνια ελιάς, σύμβολο της αποκτημένης σοφίας και της ειρήνης, και πορφυρές ζώνες, σημάδι επίτευξης του ιερού στόχου.
Λένε πως χρειάστηκαν 175 χρόνια για να οικοδομηθεί το Ιερό των Μεγάλων Θεών. Κανείς όμως δεν λέει πόσο χρόνο χρειάστηκε μέχρι να φτάσει στο άβατο του Ιερού, όπου «αμύητον μη εισιεναι» όπως έγραφε η επιγραφή που βρέθηκε εκεί.
Το Ιερό των Μεγάλων Θεών ήταν ο πυρήνας των Καβειρίων Μυστηρίων, ήταν το κέντρο της Ιερής πόλης, ήταν το σημείο που όλοι ήθελαν να καταλήξουν… για να «αρχίσουν» ξανά!
